About Loreweave
Loreweave is a collaborative worldbuilding and creative writing platform where storytellers come together to create shared universes. Inspired by community-driven projects like the SCP Foundation, Loreweave takes a more thoughtful, curated approach — designed to appeal to creative writers across all genres.
Our Mission
We believe the best stories are woven together. Loreweave exists to provide a space where worldbuilders can collaborate on rich, detailed settings, where writers can contribute fiction that expands those worlds, and where readers can explore living canons that evolve with every contribution.
How It Works
Projects are the heart of Loreweave. Each project represents a shared story world — it could be a sprawling sci-fi universe, a haunted Victorian town, or a mythological realm. Projects have two content areas:
- Stories — narrative fiction contributions ranging from flash pieces (250 words) to novellas (5,000 words)
- Canon Wiki — documentation of lore, characters, locations, factions, world rules, and events
Projects exist within a hierarchy system — a Location might sit inside a City, which belongs to a Region, inside a World, within a Universe. This creates natural connections between related projects and lets communities build vast, interconnected settings.
Every project, story, and wiki entry is automatically assigned a unique reference code (like PRJ-A3K7XN or STR-B2M9PQ). These codes appear as clickable badges on each content page, making it easy to precisely identify and cross-reference content across the platform.
Lorekeeper Tools
When you create a world, you become its Lorekeeper — the guardian of its canon. The Lorekeeper Tools dashboard gives you full control over your worlds:
- Review Queue — other contributors submit stories and wiki entries to your world for your approval. Review each submission and either approve it (publishing it to the world) or request revisions with feedback notes.
- My Worlds — manage all worlds you've created, view their activity, and handle nest requests.
- My Content — track all your stories and wiki entries with status badges showing whether they're published, pending review, or need revisions.
This system ensures that every world has a curator who maintains the integrity and consistency of its canon, while still welcoming contributions from the broader community.
The Weave Economy
The Weave Economy is a non-monetary reputation system that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and canon stewardship. It uses two soft currencies:
- Threads — the primary currency, earned by writing stories, creating wiki entries, founding worlds, commenting, and receiving upvotes. Threads can be spent in the Weave Shop on cosmetic and functional unlocks like profile borders, world badges, and creative tools.
- Strands — a rare prestige currency awarded for high-impact contributions such as canonized stories, foundational wiki entries, and world milestones.
Your Weave Level reflects your overall progression, and you unlock Guild Roles as you contribute — from Threadspinner through Storysmith, Lorewright, and Archivist, all the way to Weaver Prime. All economy actions are transparent, non-monetary, and non-tradable.
The Weave Map
The Weave Map is a living, interactive visualization of all story worlds on Loreweave. Each world appears as a node, sized by its content volume and colored by genre. Lines between nodes show parent-child and related-world connections, making it easy to see how settings connect to each other.
Active worlds pulse with a glow, worlds with high Strand counts earn a prestige aura, and genre-based filters help you discover exactly the kind of community you're looking for. It's a bird's-eye view of the entire collaborative canvas.
Identity & Anonymity
When you first visit Loreweave, you're automatically assigned a unique alias drawn from a curated word list — names like "CrimsonWeaver" or "TwilightBard" that span every genre. This alias persists in your browser and identifies all your contributions.
You can optionally generate a recovery code to reclaim your identity on another device, or register with an email to make your alias permanent. Either way, your generated name is yours — it cannot be changed, and it carries your creative legacy on the platform.
Community First
Every piece of content supports threaded discussions for conversation and collaboration. The upvote system helps surface the best contributions. Tags keep everything organized and discoverable. And notifications keep you connected to the projects and conversations you care about.
The Community Forum provides dedicated spaces for worldbuilding discussions, writing craft, feedback and critique, and general conversation — discussions that live beyond any single story's comment section. Stay up to date with site news and development via The Loom Chronicle, our official blog.
Free Forever
Loreweave is free to use. We accept donations to cover hosting costs, but there is no paid tier, no ads, and no premium content. The Weave Economy uses non-monetary currencies that cannot be purchased — the platform exists for the love of storytelling.
